SUMMARY:

Marin's 21st Century Dance Collaboration is a showcase performance of original work by bay area choreographers and composers to be held at the Marin Center Showcase Theater September 22 - 24, 2000.

M21CDC includes 11 Bay Area choreographers (5 Marin, 2 San Francisco, 3 East Bay, 1 South Bay) who have created new choreographic works in collaboration with a composer or a sound designer. FOR MORE INFORMATION ON PARTICIPATING CHOREOGRAPHERS AND COMPOSERS/SOUND DESIGNERS PLEASE CLICK HERE.

These cutting edge performance works feature over 75 performers and incorporate slide visuals, exotic instrumentation, props, ethnic costuming, and spoken word.

In over half of the pieces presented, the collaboration between choreographer and composer has resulted in the musicians performing live in conjunction with the dancers. The dance pieces themselves cover a range of styles, from ethnic to ballet, and encompass a broad field of inspirational subjects.

M21CDC is funded in part by a Marin Arts Council Community Art Grant and with support from Autodesk, Bank of America, CHAT Communication Services, Great Escapes, Inc., Miracle Mile Veterinary Hospital, Nicole Schapiro & Associates, Robert C. Placak & Associates, and others; and is produced by Hilary Kretchmer Fulp, Director of Zero Gravity Dance Theater and Lorien Fenton, Director of Dance Outré.

Besides producing this sold out event last year both Hilary and Lorien have a long history of producing dance and encouraging interdisciplinary and collaborative artistic endeavors in Marin County and beyond. Hilary Kretchmer Fulp was the co-producer of both the 1995 and 1997 Marin County Festival of Dance productions. Lorien Fenton's company, Dance Outré, performed continuously throughout the Bay Area, Northern California and Oregon between 1989 and 1996. Hilary and Lorien are also co-editors of cre8tivez.com, an online arts magazine showcasing Bay Area artists in six different disciplines.

Marin's 21st Century Dance Collaboration is now an annual project that brings choreographers, composers, dancers and musicians together in a collaborative celebration of live performance, enhancing Marin's reputation as a cultural destination.

Directions to Marin Center Showcase Theater:

From 101 North

Take North San Pedro Rd./Civic Center Exit
The exit splits immediately, so go to the right, heading east
Merge immediately to left turn lane because you will be taking the next immediate left onto Civic Center Drive

From 101 South

Take North San Pedro Rd./Civic Center Exit
After exiting turn left (onto Merrydale Rd)
Take next left onto N. San Pedro Rd.
Go under freeway
Take next left onto Civic Center Drive

From either direction, continue...

Turn right on Avenue of the Flags
If you do not have tickets, take a right into the first parking lot and visit the Marin Center Box Office in front of the Veteran's Memorial Auditorium
If you do have tickets, follow Avenue of the Flags straight back to the parking lot at the end of it
Park, and head into the theater from the back entrance
